Building your own personal computer for 2010
Jan 17th
The best way to buy a computer these days is to build one your own. Building your own computer gives you the flexibility you need to build a computer around you. Doing this gives more meaning to “Personal Computer”. There are many ways to go about building your computer here is the process I did to find and build my computer. .
One question you have to ask yourself is “What are your main reasons for using this computer”. Once you have figure this out you can now start building your ultimate personal computer be it office work, image and video manipulation and or gaming. For my personal computer I focused on video and photo manipulation and gaming and these are the steps I took to build my computer geared towards these requirements.
When starting my computer build the first thing I did was research and lots of it. It is not enough to just go online and buy the basics to get you running you must find out the best version of each separate component. The best place to start off once you found the case that matches your style would be the motherboard. Once you found the motherboard that works everything else falls into place, Example there are only one or two different cpu’s that are compatible with your motherboard. Same things goes for memory for the motherboard which is dependent on what type of ram your motherboard can handle.
Finding the components for your personal computer involves a little bit of rolling up your sleeves and getting into some research. Great sites I have come to love and depend on would be Newegg .com and Tigerdirect .com. Both are great sites but search both and you will find the best prices out there cutting your computer build cost some times by 30% or more. On top of all that they even have sales for Bare Bones pc builds, Which are just the basic components you need to build any pc at a discounted rate. Sometimes it’s good to look at these as a quick way to get a jump on a build and sometimes it’s a waste of time depending on what they decide to offer. As for me and this build I will be handpicking the different components so that I know my pc will work hard for me on the topics I described earlier.
For my case I went with the Thermaltake Armor plus line because of the awesome airflow that the cases provided as well as easy to access ports on the top front of the case. This is important to me because I will be using my flash drive a lot to import photos that I take while out in the world and I need a quick and easy way to get to my usb ports without having to crawl to the back of the pc . cost for this case will set me back $279.99
Next up on the list of things to get would be my motherboard because im advanced in the things I do be it gaming or video editing I need a computer that can keep up with me so for that reason along I went with the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard. With its many sata ports and 5.1 onboard sound and support for the new and powerful intel i7 cpu it was a must have for my build. This motherboard set me back $289.99.
With the motherboard now figured out the only choice in cpu’s I could go with would have to be the i7 lineup from i3 all the way up to the fastest which was and I7 I chose to go for the best and bought an i7 cpu a cpu is the brains of the computer without it you will have no computer so its important you treat this component with much care when installing either by wearing and antistatic strap or by wearing gloves. This particular cpu is not cheap either it cost me $288.99 to gain this powerful processing power.
With modern motherboards you will most likely not see onboard video to save space and to put more hi-end items on the board they usually will leave out onboard video that takes away from the cpu power so being that this is true for a lot of the boards you will have to buy a gpu or graphics processing unit (graphics card). Be sure to check what ports your motherboard has before purchasing a card be it pci express or just pci or if it’s an old pc agp. For my build I will be buying an evga geforce gtx 285 with on gig of onboard memory for that extra graphics processing I will be doing when dealing with anything graphic intense like gaming. This card will run me about $419.99
Another thing that should be looked at carefully will be your ram (random access memory) or for short memory. For my build I got the 6 gigabytes of ddr3 ram from ocz and this will cost me $149.99.And finally we have the hard drive this is where all your software will go as well as personal pictures as well as video too. Since I will be working with a lot of video mostly blue ray format I went for the biggest hard drive they have at the time 1terabyte. When dealing with hard drives the faster the the rpm or (revolutions per minute) are the faster your hardrive can retrieve your information so with this in mind I went for the Seagate barracuda 2 terabyte hard drive with 5900 rpm running me $179.99
With all the components in place and the computer built your going to need an operating system and software for your computer. Nowadays installing an operating system is not traumatic at all simply pop the disk in and the wizard will walk you thru the steps for installing which ever operating system you choose. For my mega build I went with the latest operating system Windows 7.Eventho this is a fairly new operating system and there are known issues with any new operating system I felt I might as well go for the latest to save any future hassles of upgrading in the future. Windows 7 full version *not the upgrade* runs $199.99.
Also being that im making this build for video and photo editing I will need software to reflect my workflow. I chose to to go with adobe for all my photo editing and video needs.
This includes adobe’s master suite which has adobe premiere for video editing and adobe photoshop for photo manipulation, And for an added plus dreamweaver and adobe flash tools are also included for web development which comes in handy for my website that I maintain.
Now that everything is built and you have installed your operating system of choice, looking back at everything that was needed and the cost you will find in most cases you already have most or some of the things on the list. A good example of this are hard drives. You will not have to spend a lot of money to get yourself an up to date personal computer and will leave yourself with money to splurge on extra accessories for your computer like a better speaker system or a gaming headset for those online battles
In conclusion it is always better to build a computer as appose to buying computers from dell.com or other websites that sell prebuilt computers, Places like these with this type of computer usually will run you well over two thousand dollars. My build has come up to $1,808.93 and will last me well over four years or more and due to the case that I have chosen it will be almost effortless when It comes to upgrading my pc . A little preplanning before hand will go a long way in ensuring satisfaction with your computer for a long time.
First day of college and here is how i prepare for it
Jan 12th
Yep,
It’s that time of the year where your new to everything thats going on and you feel like you will never find the right class. Where your afraid you will walk into the wrong class and get all cozy before the teacher goes >.> and you are?
here is how i prepared for my year in college.
Lets start off with the schedule, As a freshmen in college the most important thing is knowing what classes your taking at what time on what day in what building in what room ect ect ect. So to help me remember i added my classes to google calender

when i did this i added my classes with the names of the classes the buildings there located in and the class number complete with teacher’s name. After i was done with that i made sure a timer was set 3 hrs early for the first class of the day and 5 to 20 mins depending on how far apart my classes where for the remainder of the classes before each class.
when this was all set up i synced my iphone to google calender i would rant about how to do this but google beat me to it here http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740
after you set up your account and Everything is golden (contacts, email &calender are synced) move on to notes the note program on the iphone is ok but there is better
AWESOME NOTE APP (IPHONE3G-3GS)
with this awsome application (which you can get for free if u jailbroke your iphone *article on how easy it is to do these days later*) you can set up a folder for each class and more folders for notes for each classes ect ect. Then when you go into settings you can link it with your google docs
just type in you gmail act info and your Golden
if thats not enough awesome note works with evernote >.> http://www.evernote.com/about/home.php
and evernote is a great desktop app that sync online,on your desktop and on the iphone 3g
also …a little something extra microsoft has a demo for office 2010 right now going on thru oct and i suggest you jump on it because with all that cool upgrade comes the new version of one note ( powerful note taking software that might be head to head with evernote …*still have to test both out to give my final review
you can find a link to this beta here http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/default.aspx
enjoy college with time to spare
Ads on xbox 360 premium service?!?!?!?!
Aug 30th
Ok ,,,,so when did it become ok to put ads on a “PAID SERVICE”, I mean i pay because i want to have the most enjoyable experience there is.
xbox live community, seamless online gaming ….when while playing games will i ever worry about car insurance?…i mean damn most of the ppl who own a xbox CANT EVEN DRIVE YET but that’s not what’s worried me the most. Whats got me scratching my head is why am i paying micro$oft 50$ a yr to shove ads in my face?
if i was on silver then yea i would understand but premium really? so all that money that micro$oft is getting from the ad revenue where is that benifting us i mean do they think that there a cable company now? OK when the cable company shows ads those are the sponsors that help make what ever show your watching possible now how is that the same for xbox? There are NO place for ads on a gaming console specially when im shelling out hard earned cash for an ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Why do we feel its ok? in my opinion this is just a tease as to whats coming, ads everywhere there are already in-game billboards advertising up and coming movies ….yea i really need to know when the new batman is coming out right before i get a head shot on this guy……..yea …its that important thanks ad people without that billboard i would never of known that movies exist………. im fed up with all this but it will never change because kids are never going to rebel in fear there live will go away and no one will ever question why things keep disappearing.
like remember when after awhile maps would become free..or at least discounted….not anymore how about being able to put personal pic in the background so that when u logon u have a personal dashboard.. lol not anymore they blatently do things and no one seems to care or complain and not only that they refuse to maintain anything why does it feel like there working in the dark but im the only one that can see them?
When did GTA turn into a cesspool?
Aug 27th
Grand Theft Auto by any means is the most detailed game i have ever seen, right down to the roaches you can see running around the bathrooms. Today im not going to talk about the game nor am i going to explain how long I’ve sat in one place obsessing over the many things you could get into in the free mode of this game. No, today im going to talk about the aggravation of trying to enjoy this game without losing my temper.
Im talking about all the 8 yr olds with squeaking voices saying the most vial things over in-game chat …..wtf…..I firmly believe that any parent willing to go out and buy there 8yr old this game needs to get handcuffed and led into the woods to be shot execution style. Eh that’s just my opinion these days the few that stick around to play this game tend to be bombarded by 8 and below year old kids that are so excited that they can curse and try out every little word they learned on the unexpected gamers in the room. It is no long a surprise to me that there is yelling and screaming before my game has even loaded me into the room.
Now this is at no fault to Rock Star *creators of Grand Theft Auto* In Fact its not up to them to regulate chat at all it’s Microsoft’s responsibility to maintain and regulate things like this …..but they don’t what they do is give the players the choose if they want to report the player which im sure is bombarding them with thousands of complaints many from people who are just mad that they lost ……… so they mostly go unnoticed and unenforced which brings games like gta going down the drain not because its a bad game no…its because people don’t normaly like to play while there being called every racial slur in the book ….now Yes im fully aware that this can be said with alot of games on xbox live but non are as concentrated as they are in gta and i dont thing that will ever change ….well lol untill gta 5 i guess
But does that come with the culture of the game ?
And why is it so easy for an 8yr old to get a copy of gta 4 ?

Scoot&jinx, The brain child a well known and talented friend has finally come to fruition. What is Scooter&ndJinx? I hear time and time again can easily be explained by going to there new and revamped website Scooter&jinx.com in short it’s where you can pick up unique vinyl toys from known designers in london.
This easily makes me excited to see what you might find by walking into this epic store and im sure you cant find anything like this anywhere else (japan maybe).I’m secretly wishing that this store becomes a huge mass chain of stores around the world but i guess it would lose its uniqueness then right? lol well here are some more pre-opening pictures of the store and i can’t wait to see what comes next!!!!

Geocaching is sooooo fun!!!!
Jul 7th
Messing around in my apple store one day in my iphone i discovered an app called “Geocaching a Groundspeak Project“ Being the type to go exploring the first chance i get *thanks to growing up with a family friends called the pattways in my early years* I immediately set out to find the cache closest to my house that was labeled in my iphone “industrial cache” went with a friend of mine we spent 30 mins and still no find so we left to head back home. Disappointed and still not willing to just give up i headed out to the next closest cache called “Parking my rump”
This next one was just as hard for me as the first one spent an hour then left even came back later that day with more friends and still no find i was going to give up and just forget about geocaching when i decided to go for just one more called “monument to evaporation” ended up being my first ever find
Right there we were hooked fish line and sinker. From that location we headed out to three other locations next up was “staff parking“only Which i have to say was the creepiest one of all (O.O) it was around 2 am when we got to this location and i always used to go past this one area when i was little going to lake taylor middle school creepy indeed if you dont belive me check out these pics
next up was in a parking lot of all places and i was just a little scared about how open it all was lol no stealth could be taken due to the spot lights
i personally loved the name choice “fresh hide” after distracting a muggle street sweeping we found the cache in no time
I could go on and on about how much fun i had with me and my friends right in our own neighborhood but words cant describe verbs very well with the climbing, searching and even some muggle distractions geocaching will be my #1 favorite pass time it has been a awesome adventure right up to the very last cache search of the night “bj’s for everyone” after we chuckled about the name choice for a few we finally found it
thnx to djchibiant for the awesome monkey skillz
if you want to start finding hidden treasures in your neighborhood here is how to get started.
If you happen to have a iphone then check out this app made by groundspeake project called geocaching
if not will will be good to find some sort of gps device you can still do the hunt without one but it will be alot more difficult and hard to pinpoint
but the best leap into the geocaching would be this site right here Geocaching.com
They make and awesome iphone app and a great community site where you can logg in and track your findings they even show you on a google map the ones you have found
with option to hide the ones you found or made
i love i it
feel free to leave your comments in the comment section at the bottom of this post
im new and still learning but i would love to share what i know already about this awesome hidden community!!
